Campsie is a residential and commercial suburb located 11 kilometres southwest of Sydney`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Canterbury-Bankstown. The suburb features a vibrant high street on Beamish Street and is also the site of Canterbury Hospital. Campsie is situated between Croydon Park to the north and Earlwood to the south.
Following European settlement, the area that makes up Campsie today was used primarily for farming with the first land grants made in the early 19th century. The suburb was named after the Campsie parish in Scotland. Campsie railway station opened in 1895. Following this, Campsie developed into a residential suburb. The suburb`s first post office opened in 1900 and its public school was established in 1908.
Campsie train station is found in the centre of the suburb, with Campsie`s commercial strip found on either side of it. Canterbury Hospital is situated in the suburb`s southwest, adjacent to neighbouring Belmore. The Cooks River provides Campsie with its natural north and northeastern border. Canterbury Park Racecourse is found adjacent to Campsie`s eastern border, across the Cooks River.
