Chester Hill is a residential and commercial suburb located 19 kilometres west of Sydney`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Canterbury-Bankstown. The suburb features a small retail strip adjacent to Chester Hill train station, but is largely a residential area. Chester Hill is situated next to Woodville Golf Course, between Guildford to the north and Bass Hill to the south.
Following European settlement, the area that makes up Chester Hill today was initially a market garden and orchard district northwest of Bankstown. The area formed part of the 19th-century Campbell Hill estate, and was largely undeveloped until subdivision took place in the 1920s. The suburb`s post office opened in 1934 and its first public school in 1945. In 2021, a tornado caused some minor damage in Chester Hill.
Chester Hill`s main commercial area is based on Waldron Road, adjacent to Chester Hill train station, in the suburb`s centre. Chester Square is the suburb`s main shopping centre. Chester Hill`s most notable green spaces are Terry Lamb Complex, Norford Park and Everley Park. Woodville Golf Course and Campbell Hill Pioneer Reserve sit adjacent to Chester Hill`s northern border.
