Concord is a residential riverside suburb located 10 kilometres west of Sydney`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Canada Bay. The suburb enjoys two waterfronts, in its north and east, on the Parramatta River. A pleasant and largely residential area, Concord also features a shopping village and is home to the prestigious Concord Golf Club. Concord is situated between Mortlake to the north and Burwood to the south.
Following European settlement, the first land grants in the Concord area were made in 1793. The suburb is named after Concord, Massachusetts in the USA, which in turn was the site of the Battle of Concord - one of the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. Concord Council was established in 1883, and amalgamated with Drummoyne Council over a century later in 2000 to form the City of Canada Bay.
Majors Bay Road Shopping Village is found in the centre of the suburb, and is Concord`s main commercial precinct. Concord Golf Club and Massey Park Golf Club are both found in the suburb`s north, adjacent to the Parramatta River. Concord features a variety of green spaces, largely in its south, including Bayview Park, St Lukes Park, Concord Oval, Goddard Park and Queen Elizabeth Park.
