Croydon Park is a riverside residential suburb located 10 kilometres southwest of Sydney`s central business district, in the local government areas of the City of Canterbury-Bankstown, the Municipality of Burwood and the Inner West Council. The suburb sits on the Cooks River and enjoys a number of waterside green spaces. Croydon Park is situated between Croydon to the north and Campsie to the south.
The Darug people were the original inhabitants of the area that makes up Croydon Park today. In 1877, a portion of the former Bright Farm was purchased by Henry Parkes and subdivided. Parkes named the area Croydon Park to differentiate it from neighbouring Croydon. Early settlers largely worked in the building trade and market gardens.
Largely a residential suburb, Croydon Park also features a commercial strip on Georges River Road. The suburb`s southern border naturally sits on the Cooks River and a number of green spaces enjoy waterside locations including Croydon Park, Picken Oval, Rosedale Reserve and Flockhart Park.
