Enfield is a small residential suburb located 11 kilometres southwest of Sydney`s central business district, in the local government area of the Municipality of Burwood. The modern-day suburb is much smaller than the original Enfield locality and with this, a number of sites in neighbouring suburbs contain Enfield in their names while no longer being situated in the suburb proper. Enfield is found between Strathfield to the north and Croydon Park to the south.
Following European settlement, the first land grant in the area was made to William Faithful in 1810. A small village had formed by the 1840s and the surrounding area supported the timber industry and vegetable gardens. St Thomas` Anglican Church was completed in 1848 and is the oldest building in Enfield today.
Enfield Aquatic Centre is found in the suburb`s centre and a number of green spaces sit aside it including Shelley Street Reserve and the expansive Henley Park. A number of commercial retail premises are found in the suburb`s north, on the Hume Highway.
