Revesby is a residential suburb located 22 kilometres southwest of Sydney`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Canterbury-Bankstown. While largely a residential area, Revesby also features a bustling commercial strip and a light industrial precinct in its north. Revesby is situated between Bankstown Aerodrome and Condell Park to the north, and Revesby Height and Picnic Point to the south.
Following European settlement, land grants were first made in the area that makes up Revesby today in 1804. Revesby was initially a farming district, with few landholders actually living in the suburb. Revesby was named in 1913 in honour of Sir Joseph Banks` father`s estate Revesby Abbey in Lincolnshire, England. Revesby Public School, formerly known as Bankstown South Public School, opened in 1896. Revesby railway station opened in 1931 and the suburb`s post office opened in 1955.
While largely a residential suburb, Revesby also features a comprehensive retail precinct in its centre, radiating around Revesby Train Station. The suburb`s most significant green spaces are Johnstone Reserve, Abel Reserve and Virginius Reserve, the last of which sits on Little Salt Pan Creek. Georges River National Park is found nearby to Revesby`s southern border, and Western Sydney University`s Blacktown campus is found adjacent to Revesby`s northwest.
