Roselands is a residential and commercial suburb located 16 kilometres southwest of Sydney`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Canterbury-Bankstown. One of the easternmost suburbs in the Western Sydney region, Roselands is situated between Lakemba to the north and Beverly Hills to the south. The suburb features a large shopping centre, as well as an aquatic and leisure centre.
The original inhabitants of the area that makes up Roselands today were Aborigines of the Darug language group. Following European settlement, the first land grants in the district were made in the early 19th century. The suburb is named after the plant nursery that originally occupied part of the suburb. The nursery was later replaced by a golf course, which in turn was replaced by Roselands Shopping Centre. The shopping centre opened in 1965 and was the third fully enclosed shopping precinct in Australia - with most shopping centres at the time still open-air.
Roselands Shopping Centre was recently refurbished and is situated in the suburb`s centre, adjacent to Roselands Leisure and Aquatic Centre. Separate to the shopping centre, Roselands is largely a residential suburb. Wiley Park is found next to the suburb`s northern border, while Canterbury Golf Course is situated adjacent to Roselands` southern border.
